Compost tea in IBC tote

A quick look at making compost tea in an IBC tote. I always add ingredients as I go after each tank draining while flood feeding the garden.

Plant grass for erosion contol

We have a few areas at thelowcashhomestead that are heavly shaded. One of these areas has become a wash. We mowed, aerated and seeded this area in an attempt to grow more grass and slow down washing.

You can find the sun and shade blend here: https://amzn.to/2GkWglG

Raised Asparagus bed number 3

Asparagus is one of my favorite foods, but it takes time to grow. Each year I add another raised asparagus bed, this bed is my third one. It measures 2×8 and is made of galvalum. I am really starting to like galvalum for raised beds. It’s easy to work with, cost effective, available almost everywhere, and will last for years.

Must Have Tools for Homesteaders

Today we talk briefly about another tool I think all homesteaders should have, an air compressor. The uses of an air compressor are just about limitless. I use mine several times a week.

Things your kids won’ learn in school basic woodworking

Today I had planned a basic wood work project as a surprise to my wife. It was a perfect chance to introduce the kids to some of the tools and techniques used in basic wood working. However the recent storm flooded my garage so they had to learn from a few feet away while I was standing in an inch of mud.

Schools are getting rid of practical classes like industrial tech, wood working, and metal working. By the time I had hit sixth grade I was using a metal forge and building hand tools from scratch(YES THIS WAS A CLASS AT SCHOOL). Schools don’t teach these skills anymore and if they do you have to wait till high school or attend a tradeschool.
